The Usual website

Previously the home of one of my favorite restaurants The Fix (post to come), 166 Shrewsbury St now houses The Usual.

From their website:

"WHAT'S YOUR USUAL? The Usual is a deluxe sandwich eatery and lounge featuring unique and imaginative sandwiching ideas that have been created to satisfy even the most distinct palate. We also have a wide range of “Usual” and “Unusual” beverage choices that match perfectly with our sandwiching concept. Many of our ingredients are locally sourced from qualified vendors whom allow us to take pride in our selection of some of the freshest and highest quality food components. Wired light bulbs and wooden tables create a rustic-meets-modern vibe in our spacious, two level restaurant"

The Usual Text Convo

As a lover of food, I jumped at the chance to try something new. Three days later, we met with some friends to try out this new sandwich joint.

***** one such friend goes by "Adam" and states "I don't like how I am simply referenced as "some friends" in the article. I demand more respect. Also my sandwich (which was called the Atomic) was delicious." So if that doesn't sell you on the restaurant, I just don't know.

THE ATOMIC: pork Milanese, fried mortadella, lettuce slaw, sweet tomato jam, muenster, The Usual sauce, jalapeños, Texas toast / 14

My sandwich of choice to try:

KOREAN STEAK AND CHEESE: garlic ginger marinade, sambal aioli, pickles, jalapeño, lettuce, pho aioli, provolone, hoagie roll / 14

In all honesty I didn't know exactly what some of those things in the sandwich were, but it didn't stop me. (pho aoili? sambal aioli? idk but I typically like aiolis so why the hell not?)

No disappointment from me. The "Usual fries" are cooked in this awesome honey and sriracha sauce / rub thing: I loved them. I will definitely be going back sometime soon... and according to the text I just got from my sister, she will be coming with. Maybe she'll have her own notes on this place.

I am excited to see what new sandwiches they come up with, I for one would like to see some specials. But as a brand new place (opened last month, November 2016), I'll give them some time to get things really rolling. If you're in the central MA area, check 'em out.

Also keep an eye out for the review of Nu Cafe, because it looks delicious too.
